About This Site

gentoo.dev is a personal site. No brand, no team, no editorial calendar. Just one person writing about the places I go, the things I do, and whatever I happen to be interested in that week.

Who I Am

I'm a web developer based in Maine. My wife is Cambodian. We have family, a home, and property in Cambodia, and we spend weeks at a time there. Not as tourists. It's just part of our life.

Between trips I'm into cars, tech, drones, and getting outside. I wanted somewhere to put all of it without handing it over to a platform that could bury it in an algorithm or change the rules. So I built this.

Cambodia

This is the deepest part of the site and probably what most people find first. I've been going for years. I have family there, I own property there, and I've spent enough time on the ground to know the difference between what the internet says about Cambodia and what it's actually like.

Temples most people never visit. Roads that aren't on Google Maps. Drone shots from places you have to work to get to. The adventures, the gallery, the guides, all of that comes from repeat trips and real local knowledge. Not a two week vacation.

Everything Else

The site isn't only Cambodia. I travel a lot domestically. Maine and New England are home, Florida is a regular stop, we road trip through Canada every year, and work takes me across the country. Texas, Alabama, conferences in random cities. If something interesting happens on the road, I'll write about it.

I'm also a car person. The kind that buys a BMW M3 in South Carolina and drives it home to Maine. The kind that takes the long way.

On the tech side, I'm a web developer by trade, so gear, gadgets, and the occasional deep dive into something I'm testing will show up in the forums. No reviews for SEO. Just honest takes on things I actually bought and used.

Why "gentoo"?

If you know, you know. If you don't, it's a Linux thing. The domain was available and it fit.

No sponsors. No affiliates. No one's paying me to say any of this.
